Sound Recordings
Audio offers another way to monitor and describe change in a place over time. This sound recorder is paired with the time-lapse camera at KOLA and records 5 minutes of audio every hour. These audio clips document biological sounds, such as calls of birds and anurans, as well as the sounds made by people, wind, and rain.
While a graduate student at UNK, Bethany Ostrom used sound recordings, such as from this site, to create acoustic indices that she related to in-person surveys for birds. She also created, illustrated, and narrated this introductory video about soundscape ecology.
